Mario's Bedroom

I spent a lot of time on this one. But I bring to you Mario's bedroom. I spent about 5 days working on the actual picture itself, but I spent hours researching it. I have been in Kuwait with nothing else to do, so 5 days may not seem like a lot, but I have been spending 4 or 5 hours easy on this thing every day. I know there are hundreds of artists on this site that are better qualified to do this project. But I look at this as a learning experience for me. Sometime in the future, I wouldn't be against going back and trying this again after I have fine tuned my Photoshop skills.

Looking at it, I can see there are some things I did very right and some I did very wrong. But I am happy with the final result because I took a plain picture of a bedroom and turned it into something I could see Mario living in every day (when he is not saving the Mushroom Kingdom) I kept telling my wife to wait and see what I'm working on. I told her I was very happy with what I was doing with this picture, and I'm sure she can see now what my excitement was all about. There are many people on here that can run circles around me artistaclly, but this is MY greatest creation.

Notes about the work:

-The inspiration for this work comes from a painting by Vincint Van Gough where he painted his bedroom. I have been doing a lot of Mario artwork lately so I thought he would be the perfect subject.

-I stayed away as much as I could from using pictures found on Deviant Art. I found most of these pictures on Wikipedia or Google. The bedroom itself did come from Deviant Art, and as soon as I can find it again I will make sure to link back and give proper credit. When I was looking for a bedroom to use, I downloaded several pictures and this is the one I went with. I think I made the right choice.


-I was really worried starting out that I would use too much red. I decided to use more blue and evejn make the carpet green. The walls were yellow, and I left them that way because I think the room still looks good like that. I re-created most of the furniture including the lamps and nightstands.

-I encourage other Mario fans (with more skill than me) to take a crack at their own bedroom design because I had a lot of fun with mine. I know some of it looks cartoonish while other parts look real. Some shadows are off and some things are not quite placed in the right spots, but those are things I will get better at with time. All in all, I love this work, and I hope to hear what all of you think!
